Les rencontres humaines sont toujours très enrichissantes. L’un de nos clients nous a parlé d’une de ses initiatives: un projet associatif au nom de Kaloweit.

A l’heure où l’éco-volontariat se développe, peut-être que parmi nos quelques lecteurs, certains feront le pas utile de soutenir cette association, en devenant parrain.

Kalaweit est une association française loi 1901 et un projet créé en 1999 pour venir en aide aux gibbons captifs d’Indonésie. En effet, les jeunes sont prisés comme animaux de compagnie mais à la maturité sexuelle (7 ans) l’animal devient agressif et est tué. Au moment de la capture, les parents ont eux-mêmes été tués. Le gibbon et l’orang-outan sont en danger d’extinction en Indonésie. Contrairement à l’orang-outan, il n’existait aucun programme de réhabilitation pour le gibbon à Bornéo et à Sumatra. L’objectif est de rendre ces gibbons à la vie sauvage après un travail nécessaire de réhabilitation. Ceci se fait à travers une approche globale, avec protection de l’environnement de ces gibbons (création d’une réserve de la vie sauvage, lutte contre la déforestation) et l’intégration des populations locales à tous les niveaux du projet. Kalaweit gère deux centres (Bornéo et Sumatra), réhabilite actuellement 300 gibbons et siamangs, emploie 50 personnes, vétérinaires et employés. Kalaweit a crée l’ “Ecole pour la Nature” d’une capacité de 30 écoliers. Kalaweit permet le parrainage de nos gibbbons et siamangs. Kalaweit reçoit des stagiaires dans le cadre de stages de découverte ..

Kalaweit is french non-profit organization (under law 1901), but also a project born in Indonesia in 1999, to help captive gibbons in Indonesia . Young gibbons are frequently sold as pets in Indonesia, but when the gibbons become mature (around 7 years old), they become aggressive and people kill them… For each baby gibbon on the market, one family had been killed by poachers. Gibbons and orangutans are in danger of extinction in Indonesia . Before Kalaweit, no project was trying to help and rehabilitate gibbons in Borneo and Sumatra . The goal is to send them back into the wild. To do that, Kalaweit have a global approach including habitat protection (reserve, fight against deforestation) and awareness of local people to include them in the gibbon conservation project. Kalaweit manage 2 centers (in Borneo and Sumatra ), 300 gibbons and siamangs, 50 staffs (including vets and paramedics). Kalaweit also manage a school (SD Alam lestari) who can receive 30 children in Borneo . Kalaweit also give the opportunity to people interested by the project to follow a gibbon during his progress, in our Adoption Program, and Kalaweit received also volunteers who want to feel an experience at Kalaweit Borneo.
