Knock Out on servers market ?

Big rumor say IBM is in talks to buy Sun. StockExchange is forgeting crisis effect and Sun shares skyrockets (78,87%)

On one side, Apollo 13 : Sun Microsystems (stand for Stanford University Network)

  • 13, 97 billions of revenues
  • 38.600 co-workers
  • Located in over 100 countries
  • Besides, UNIX, Java, NFS, Open Office, Sparc, Solaris …

On other hand, International Business Machine : IBM

  • 103 billions of revenues
  • 386.000 co-workers
  • “The innovators’ Innovator”
  • Founded in 1911, Big Blue
  • 3 activities : hardware, software, consulting

The issue : to be the first supplier regarding server

The deal : 6,5 billions of dollars

Is the match already fixed ?

They have just rationalized their team (job cuts : 6000 for Sun, 4000 for IBM regarding US area). So, they prefer to go with than to go against.

Anyway, other boxers such as Cisco or even HP, can they survive ?
